Life OSIn crafting Pleo, we set out to create a Life Form capable of organic and realistic movement, autonomous behavior, adaptive learning, and expressive personality.
"Life OS" is the complex platform of tools and technologies that enable Pleo's mechanical, electronic, sensory, and AI systems to interact as a lifelike whole. Based on Life OS, the Pleo Software Developer Toolkit is a set of tools, applications, utilities, interfaces, and scripting languages that developers can use to extend our work beyond our walls.
Life OS architecture is organized in three functional layers:
The Low-Level Layer deals directly with Pleo's hardware, including motor controls, sensors, battery, USB, camera, and sound. It provides drivers for each hardware component.
The Mid-Level Layer provides application support to the high-level scripting layer, controlling back-end functionality for all of Pleo's complex systems.
The High-Level Layer drives Pleo's animation, behavior, and global status, such as age, health, energy level, and attentiveness—Pleo's brain, as it were.
With the release of the Pleo Software Developer Toolkit, we will provide requisite Life OS documentation—though we'll always keep some of our mysteries under wraps.
Downloads for Developers When we release the Pleo Software Developer Toolkit, it will make it possible for hobbyists and developers to creatively interact with Pleo on the programming level. Will you use our Toolkit to design a new neural network learning algorithm, or to add a cool sound effect? From casual hobbyists to hardcore hackers, everyone is supported at a level that makes their personalization rewarding and fun.
